Hey Girls,
Well, I was on vacation last week and I have fallen behind in my homework for NOGs. I am trying to catch up. However, while I was on my trip I read the book, The Shack. Have any of you read it??? How about you LifeWay bookstore girls???
I wasn't quite sure what to think about it. I found it wild and weird, yet wonderful all at the same time.
I would love to hear from you all on this one.
By the way, I am coming to the Living Proof event in Louisville on Friday. Who else will be there?? Where can I find you?
Amy

Amy, I am not a fellow Ky Siesta but I know Linda (UL Cards Fan). Anyway I had to pipe in about The Shack. I love it and am reading it for my second time. Just thought I would tell you that the author was on Life Today and you can see his interviews online. (maybe you have already done this). But it gave me a whole new perspective on the book.
Just a thought,
Sheryl
I have read the shack and have mixed feelings about it as well. While I thought that some parts were enlightening and thought-provoking (the part dealing with forgiving a person who has caused horrific events in life spoke volumes to me), I also have concerns about the way people see this book. I think it would be too easy to substitute a longing to have "this" relationship with Jesus rather than developing an authentic relationship with Him. Working in a christian book store, I have seen many books become a replacement for the Word. The Left Behind series convinced people that this is the way the end times will appear to us rather than studying the Bible to see what it said. The Jabez movement had people following "the prayer" rather than following God. As I read "the shack", I found myself wanting to read it again, so I could get to know Jesus a little better. Which is as silly a thought as I've ever had. I think sometimes we are so hungry for God but so eager for shortcuts that we eagerly put anything in place of an actual seeking/relationship with Him. (Hmm...sounds like NOGs.) I didn't mean to write a book but I do have some strong feelings on the subject.
Oh, as far as LPL goes, stop by the bookstore and you'll find a couple of us hanging out there!
My sister in law, Sherri, is reading this book at the moment. I will get her opinion as well and comment later.
Amy,
Yes, I am planning on attending the conference here at Southeast. I will be going with a friend of mine, but I am not sure where we will be sitting. Sounds like the bookstore, might be a place for some of us to meet. I am so excited.
